DescriptionEdit

The pterosaurs that attacked Terra Nova may be small, but they have big attitudes. They live in roosting colonies containing several hundred individuals. This kind of social behavior is most commonly seen in modern day bats and in some species of birds. Their color pattern comes in various shades of purple and they have long tails with a flap of skin on the end which is used as a rudder in flight. They also have long pointed beaks full of needle-like teeth which are perfect for catching fish. Apparently, Terra Nova was built on their nesting grounds and they weren't happy about it. Three security soldiers were killed and several more people were injured. Luckily Dr. Elizabeth Shannon and Dr. Malcom Wallace managed to draw them away from the colony with pheromones.

Fact FileEdit

Since these pterosaurs share the environment with the Brachiosaurs and the Carnotaurus, it's likely that they lived in Argentina as well. Many different species of pterosaur evolved in Argentina over millions of years, but none of them match the ones that attacked Terra Nova. But in 1981, the first Rhamphorhynchid pterosaur ever to evolve in Argentina was discovered. It was named Angustinaripterus longicephalus and matches the description of the pterosaurs in Terra Nova perfectly. Angustinaripterus was in the same family as many of the more primitve pterosaurs like Eudimorphodon, Dimorphodon, and Rhamphorhynchus.
